WTC WH40K TEAM TIERS
& HOW THEY ARE CALCULATED
For our WH40K Team Event, we have a pod phase just like in the world cup, where nations are divided in groups of approximate equal strength. To calculate the ‘strength’ of a nation, we use the last 3 datapoints available for that nation
and calculate their weighted average placement percentagewise as follows.
The Average Placement Percentagewise (APP) is calculated with the following formula:
APP = [A-(A-P)]/A
where:
A = Number of attending teams that year
P = Team placement that year
The weighted average placement percentagewise for 2026 is calculated as follows:
WPP = 0.5 X APP2025 + 0.3 X APP2024 + 0.2 X APP2023
Note that teams that do not have 3 WTC appearances will have a skewed WPP as their APP = WPP in case they attended only once, or their WPP = 0.6 X APP_1 + 0.4 X APP_2.
The WAPP as displayed below will be used to populate the different pods for the first three rounds at the WTC. New teams without an APP/WPP will be rnadomly distributed in a given pod prior to performing the rest of the draw.
